Some information about the materials
we use and the scale we are working in. Our first pieces were
copies of antique chairs, which we made for dolls 25-35 cm tall
just because I had these dolls in my collection. It was the time
when my husband and I made the furniture together. It was
very interesting to discuss new models, create drawings, design
new complicated
elements. It would have taken me much longer to get woodworking skills I have now without the help of my husband. But everything changes... After a while we realized that we have different likes in the size of the furniture. I prefer to make furniture for my dolls, and they varies in sizes between 25-70 cm, and Gennady is more attracted to a tiny 1 cm models. So he chose a
scale of 1:72, and I work from 1:6 to 1:3. We still have some things we made together, like a cabinet for Alice. And such work is especially loved.

We also use many different types of
wood. In a nutshell, very important part of the wood is it's
color, so little by little we acquainted a whole collection of
different kinds of wood in many colors. Basically it's all very
valuable and exotic woods. I love to touch these "treasures",
it's almost like a meditation for me. These pieces are not only
vary in color, but also by weight, and even the smell. For
example, look at the green bars. This is Lignum Vitae (green
heart, the holy tree, ironwood) - "Tree of Life", the
most solid and heavy tree in the world, an extremely rare
and expencive, with a very pleasant smell, which is more like the
smell of deodorant and not wood. My husband also uses mahogany,
walnut, teak, Cumaru, Tigerwood, leopard wood, amaranth(purple),
Wenge, Padauk, and many other types of wood in his miniatures.
Frankly, I don't know the exact number of different types of wood
we have, but it's well over 30.
The materials for the doll furniture
are a bit easier. It is mainly oak, birch and veneer for
marquetry. I knit with cotton and very thin wool and decorate it
with handmade flowers, hand embroidery and very delicate cotton lace.
